Peer Review Process
1. Double-Blind Peer Review Mechanism
Every manuscript submitted to Jurnal Pendidikan dan Penciptaan Seni (JIPSI) (Online ISSN: 2776-9801) undergoes a rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review process. Both the identities of the authors and the identities of the reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review process to guarantee impartial, objective, and merit-based evaluation.
2. Step-by-Step Editorial and Review Workflow
- Step 1 — Initial Editorial Desk Evaluation (1–7 Days): Upon submission, the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor screens the manuscript for alignment with the journal's Focus and Scope, adherence to the JIPSI template, completeness of visual/figure documentation and metadata, and similarity screening via Turnitin / Plagiarism Checker X (maximum threshold: 30%). Manuscripts that fail desk screening are either returned for technical revision or desk-rejected.
- Step 2 — Double-Blind Peer Review Assignment (2–4 Weeks): Manuscripts passing desk evaluation are assigned by a Section Editor to at least two (2) independent external reviewers (Mitra Bestari) who hold relevant expertise in arts education, visual arts, music, dance, or performing arts and are affiliated with institutions different from those of the authors.
- Step 3 — Evaluation Criteria: Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:
- Originality, pedagogical or aesthetic contribution, and novelty of the research or artwork creation;
- Appropriateness and rigor of the research methodology or artistic creation method (metode penciptaan);
- Clarity of analysis, quality of visual/musical/performance documentation, and depth of critical discussion;
- Relevance to arts education or creative practice and quality of academic references (APA Style).
- Step 4 — Editorial Decision: Based on the reviewers' reports, the Editor-in-Chief or Section Editor issues one of four decisions:
- Accept Submission: Accepted without further changes.
- Revisions Required (Minor Revision): Accepted subject to minor textual or methodological revisions verified by the Editor.
- Resubmit for Review (Major Revision): Requires substantial revision and a second round of evaluation by the reviewers.
- Decline Submission (Rejected): Rejected due to insufficient novelty, severe methodological flaws, or lack of alignment with the journal's scope.
- Step 5 — Author Revision (1–3 Weeks): Authors must submit their revised manuscript along with a point-by-point response to reviewer comments within the stipulated deadline.
- Step 6 — Final Acceptance, Copyediting, Layout & Publication: Once accepted, the manuscript undergoes professional copyediting, layout formatting into PDF galleys, Crossref DOI assignment (
10.34007/jipsi), and final proofreading before online publication in the scheduled issue (May or November).

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Statement of Publication Ethics and Malpractice
Jurnal Pendidikan dan Penciptaan Seni (JIPSI) (Online ISSN: 2776-9801), published by Mahesa Research Center, is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and preventing academic and artistic malpractice. Our ethical policies are grounded in the Core Practices and Guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (publicationethics.org) and Indonesia's National Journal Accreditation (ARJUNA / SINTA) standards.
1. Ethical Duties of Editors
- Fair Play and Editorial Independence: The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board evaluate submitted manuscripts and creative arts reports exclusively on the basis of academic and artistic merit, originality, methodological/creative rigor, and relevance to the journal's scope, without discrimination regarding the authors' race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or institutional affiliation.
- Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher.
- Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Unpublished materials or artistic concepts disclosed in a submitted manuscript must never be used in an editor's own research or creation without the express written consent of the author. Editors recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
- Investigation of Misconduct: Editors take responsive measures in accordance with COPE flowcharts when ethical complaints or allegations of misconduct (including plagiarism or uncredited appropriation of artworks) are presented concerning a submitted manuscript or published paper.
2. Ethical Duties of Peer Reviewers
- Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Double-blind peer review assists the Editor in making editorial decisions and helps the author improve the scholarly and artistic quality of the manuscript through constructive feedback.
- Promptness and Competence: Any invited referee who feels unqualified to review the research or artistic creation reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the Editor immediately and decline the invitation.
- Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be uploaded to public Generative AI tools or shared with unauthorized third parties.
- Standards of Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate; referees should express their views clearly with supporting scholarly arguments.
- Acknowledgment of Sources & Competing Interests: Reviewers should identify relevant published work or artworks that have not been cited by the authors and must decline to review manuscripts in which they have competing interests.
3. Ethical Duties of Authors
- Reporting Standards & Integrity: Authors of original arts education research and artistic creation reports must present an accurate account of the work performed and an objective discussion of its pedagogical or aesthetic significance. Underlying data, visual documentation, scores, and field notes must be represented accurately without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation.
- Originality, Plagiarism, and Artistic Copyright: Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works (maximum 30% similarity index) and that if they have used the words, music, choreography, visual works, or ideas of others, this has been appropriately cited in APA Style and accompanied by necessary permissions where required.
- Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: An author must not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Concurrent submission to more than one journal is unethical and unacceptable.
- Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study or artwork. All co-authors must approve the final version of the paper and agree to its submission.
- Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal Editor and cooperate with the Editor to retract or correct the paper.
4. Ethical Duties of the Publisher (Mahesa Research Center)
Mahesa Research Center ensures that editorial decisions remain completely independent of commercial or financial considerations, supports the Editorial Board in investigating ethical complaints, guarantees permanent digital archiving via LOCKSS and Garuda, and ensures timely publication of corrections, clarifications, or retractions whenever required.
Authorship Criteria
1. General Principles of Authorship
Jurnal Pendidikan dan Penciptaan Seni (JIPSI) (Online ISSN: 2776-9801) adheres strictly to international standards of scholarly authorship established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Authorship confers academic credit and carries direct accountability for the integrity, originality, and accuracy of the published arts education research or artistic creation report.
2. Four Mandatory Criteria for Authorship
An individual listed as an author on any manuscript submitted to JIPSI must meet all four of the following criteria:
- Substantial Contribution: Made substantial intellectual or creative contributions to the conception or design of the pedagogical study or artwork creation, OR to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of empirical/artistic data; AND
- Drafting or Critical Revision: Drafted the manuscript OR revised it critically for important intellectual, theoretical, and methodological/artistic content; AND
- Final Approval: Approved the final version of the manuscript to be published; AND
- Accountability: Agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the research or artwork documentation are appropriately investigated and resolved.
3. Contributors and Acknowledgments
Individuals who contributed to the work or performance production but do not meet all four authorship criteria (such as studio technicians, accompanists, field enumerators, photographers, language editors, or general departmental heads) must not be listed as authors. Instead, their contributions should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section with their permission.
4. Prohibited Authorship Practices
- Ghost Authorship: Omitting individuals who participated substantially in the research or writing of the manuscript is a breach of publication ethics.
- Guest, Gift, or Honorary Authorship: Including individuals as authors solely because of their seniority, institutional position, or reputation without substantial intellectual contribution is strictly prohibited.
- Sale of Authorship (Paper Mills): Adding or purchasing authorship slots after manuscript acceptance results in immediate rejection or retraction.
- AI Tools as Authors: Generative AI and Large Language Models (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) cannot fulfill accountability requirements and must never be listed as authors or co-authors.
5. Changes to Authorship
Any request to add, remove, or rearrange author names after initial submission requires a formal written explanation signed by all listed authors submitted to the Editor-in-Chief. Changes to authorship are not permitted after a manuscript has been formally accepted for publication.

3. Similarity Index Thresholds and Editorial Actions
Excluding bibliography/references and properly enclosed direct quotations, JIPSI applies the following strict similarity index thresholds:
- Similarity Index ≤ 30% (with no single source exceeding 5%): The manuscript passes similarity screening and proceeds to double-blind peer review.
- Similarity Index between 31% and 40%: The manuscript is returned to the author(s) prior to peer review for mandatory revision and proper paraphrasing/citation.

4. Handling Post-Publication Plagiarism
If textual or artistic plagiarism, duplicate publication, or copyright infringement is discovered after an article has been published in JIPSI, the Editorial Board will conduct a formal investigation in accordance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Flowcharts. If substantiated, the article will be formally retracted, a Retraction Notice linked to the original DOI will be published, and the author's institution may be notified.
Allegations of Research Misconduct
1. Commitment to Research and Artistic Integrity
Jurnal Pendidikan dan Penciptaan Seni (JIPSI) (Online ISSN: 2776-9801) and its publisher, Mahesa Research Center, take all allegations of research, pedagogical, and artistic misconduct seriously. We follow the procedures and flowcharts established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to investigate and resolve suspected misconduct regarding both submitted manuscripts and published articles.
2. Scope of Misconduct
Misconduct includes, but is not limited to:
- Data & Documentation Fabrication/Falsification: Inventing or deceptively manipulating empirical classroom data, ethnographic interviews, or visual/audio documentation of artworks and reporting them as authentic.
- Plagiarism and Redundant Publication: Appropriating another person's text, musical score, choreography, visual design, or research findings without proper attribution, or publishing substantially the same article in more than one journal (salami slicing or duplicate submission).
- Peer Review Manipulation: Submitting fabricated reviewer identities/emails or attempting to compromise the anonymity of the double-blind review process.
- Authorship Misconduct & Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest: Ghost/gift authorship, commercial paper-mill submissions, or failure to disclose financial/institutional conflicts of interest.
3. Investigation Procedure (COPE Protocol)
- Receipt & Confidentiality: Whistleblowers, readers, reviewers, or editors may report suspected misconduct with supporting evidence to the Editor-in-Chief (jurnaljipsi@gmail.com). All allegations are handled with strict confidentiality.
- Initial Assessment: The Editor-in-Chief and Ethics Committee evaluate the credibility and documentary evidence of the allegation within 14 working days.
- Author Inquiry: The corresponding author (and co-authors) are contacted in writing and given a fair opportunity (typically 14–30 days) to respond and provide raw datasets, creative portfolios, ethics approvals, or clarifications.
- Institutional Referral: If the authors' response is unsatisfactory or inconclusive, JIPSI may contact the authors' affiliated institution or ethics board to request an official investigation.
- Sanctions & Corrective Actions: Depending on the severity of confirmed misconduct, JIPSI will apply appropriate sanctions: immediate rejection of a pending manuscript, publication of an Expression of Concern during an ongoing investigation, formal Retraction of a published article, and a prohibition on future submissions for 1 to 3 years.
Conflict of Interest Policy
1. Definition of Conflict of Interest
A Conflict of Interest (also known as a Competing Interest) arises when professional judgment concerning a primary interest (such as the validity of arts education research, authenticity of artistic creation, or objectivity of peer review) may be influenced by a secondary interest (such as financial gain, commercial sponsorship, institutional rivalry, personal relationships, or academic competition).
2. Author Responsibilities and Disclosure
All authors submitting manuscripts to Jurnal Pendidikan dan Penciptaan Seni (JIPSI) must disclose any financial, commercial, institutional, or personal relationships that could be perceived as influencing their work. Authors must explicitly include a Conflict of Interest Statement and a Funding Disclosure Statement in the manuscript prior to the References section:
- If no conflict exists: "The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper."
- If funding or exhibition/production sponsorship was received: Authors must state the funding agency or cultural sponsor, grant number (if applicable), and whether the sponsor had any role in study design, artistic creation, or the decision to submit for publication.
3. Reviewer Responsibilities
Peer reviewers must disclose to the Editor any competing interest before agreeing to review a manuscript. Reviewers must decline the review invitation if they are affiliated with the same institution or department as any of the authors, have collaborated or co-authored with the authors within the past 3 years, or hold a direct personal or financial interest in the work evaluated.
4. Editorial Board Responsibilities
Editors and Section Editors must recuse themselves from handling any manuscript in which they have a personal, institutional, or financial conflict of interest, or where an editor is listed as an author or co-author. Such submissions are reassigned to an independent Editor and evaluated by external reviewers outside the author's institution.

1. Open Scholarly and Artistic Dialogue
Jurnal Pendidikan dan Penciptaan Seni (JIPSI) (Online ISSN: 2776-9801) views publication as an ongoing catalyst for constructive academic and artistic dialogue. We encourage educators, researchers, art critics, and practitioners to engage in critical post-publication discussion regarding articles published in our journal.
2. Channels for Post-Publication Discussion
- Letters to the Editor / Critical Commentaries: Readers may submit a formal scholarly commentary or aesthetic/methodological critique addressing an article published in JIPSI within 6 months of its publication. If the commentary passes editorial review for scholarly merit and constructive tone, the original authors will be invited to write a formal Author's Reply, and both may be published in a subsequent issue.
- Direct Editorial Correspondence: Readers who identify potential errors, omitted attributions, or ethical concerns in a published article may email the Editorial Office directly at jurnaljipsi@gmail.com.
- External Post-Publication Peer Review Platforms: JIPSI monitors and welcomes constructive scientific discussion on recognized post-publication platforms using the article's Crossref DOI (
10.34007/jipsi).
3. Editorial Handling of Post-Publication Concerns
All substantive critiques or error reports received by the Editorial Office are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief in accordance with COPE guidelines. If an error or ethical issue is confirmed that affects the scholarly record, JIPSI will issue an official Correction (Erratum/Corrigendum), Expression of Concern, or Retraction linked directly to the original article's DOI.
Corrections and Retractions
1. Preserving the Integrity of the Academic Record
Jurnal Pendidikan dan Penciptaan Seni (JIPSI) (Online ISSN: 2776-9801) is committed to maintaining the permanence and accuracy of the published scholarly record. In strict compliance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Retraction Guidelines, when significant errors or ethical breaches are identified in a published article, the Editorial Board will issue one of the following formal notices linked via Crossref DOI to the original publication:
2. Correction Notices (Erratum & Corrigendum)
A Correction is issued when a published article contains an honest error (such as a mislabeled artwork figure, typographical error in a table, or author affiliation mistake) that affects clarity or metadata accuracy but does not invalidate the core findings or conclusions of the study.
- Corrigendum: Issued when an honest error was introduced by the author(s).
- Erratum: Issued when a production or layout error was introduced by the journal during copyediting or typesetting.
3. Expression of Concern
An Expression of Concern is published by the Editor-in-Chief when there is inconclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct by the authors, or when an official institutional investigation is underway regarding the reliability of the findings, to alert readers while awaiting a final determination.
4. Article Retraction Policy
A Retraction is reserved for severe breaches that invalidate the scientific reliability or ethical standing of a published article, including:
- Clear evidence that the findings or artwork documentation are unreliable due to fabrication, falsification, or major analytical error;
- Substantiated textual or artistic plagiarism, copyright infringement, or redundant/duplicate publication;
- Compromised or manipulated peer review;
- Unethical research practices or undisclosed major conflicts of interest.
Retraction Procedure: In accordance with COPE standards, a retracted article is not deleted from the journal's website or digital archives. Instead, the PDF is watermarked "RETRACTED", the article title is prefixed with "RETRACTED:", and a formal Retraction Notice stating the specific reasons for retraction and who initiated it is published free of charge and bidirectionally linked to the original article's DOI (10.34007/jipsi).
Review Process Policy
